ABOUT
Sean Murphy
My journey started in a small town called Chester, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia. When I was growing up, I loved acting in stage shows. A love of acting has informed every on-air television job in my career.
My television career started in Philly, first as a writer, producer, and features reporter for Comcast SportsNet, and later as a features reporter and traffic anchor for UPN/CW 57 and CBS 3. Having grown up in southeastern Pennsylvania, my knowledge of tri-state area roadways was solid, so that and an ability to ad-lib made doing live traffic hits every five minutes for four hours each weekday a cinch.
Later on I did traffic for NBC 4 in Los Angeles. Traffic in LA - never a dull moment.
Nowadays I am the proverbial “one-man-band,” shooting, editing, and producing my own segment in Andover, Massachusetts, called Positively Andover.
As a features reporter, I crave the stories that the hard-news junkies have no interest in covering.
Can a yawning human cause a dog to yawn? “Let’s find out!”
The head of the Phillie Phanatic mascot was stolen? “I’m on it!”
Having an off-the-map sense of humor helps. I also love heart-warming stories, like the horse farm in Andover that offers touch therapy to dementia patients and their caregivers.
I’m an intuitive listener with meticulous attention to detail. I appreciate and do not fear hard work - I welcome it. And I appreciate the talents of the amazing camera people and editors who’ve helped bring my sometimes wacky visions to life.
So, whether it’s providing alternate routes around a three-lane blockage on the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles, telling the stories of a Toad Detour Coordinator (yes, it’s a thing) in Philadelphia and a living legend in Andover, or interviewing Mites on Ice in front of 20,000 hockey fans… I’ve lived it and I love it.
